New Jersey-bound train carrying at least 180 passengers derails at Penn Station A train carrying at least 180 passengers bound for New Jersey derailed at Penn Station in New York Thursday night, officials said. NJ Transit's North Jersey coast train No. 3276 was leaving the hub when one car came off the tracks around 9pm. There were no immediate reports of injuries or structural issues reported. 'Train service is suspended in/out of PSNY due to minor NJ Transit train derailment. All mid-town direct trains will be diverted to Hoboken,' a tweet from NJ Transit reads. The statewide public transportation system added in a second message tweeted: 'We are cross-honoring with PATH, NJT Bus and Private Carrier Services until further notice.' All Amtrak and NJ TRANSIT trains were suspended at Penn Station as of 9.45pm, WCBS reported. The nine-car train involved in the incident that left dozens of commuters frustrated originated in Long Branch, New Jersey at 7.20pm. Photos and video shared to social media showed several FDNY fire vehicles and emergency responders rushing to the scene. Facebook user Rich Denison captured images inside the derailed train. 'Our train derailed in Penn - cops just walked through to check for injuries - can't evacuate - surrounded by 3rd rails #njtransit #amtrak suck,' he wrote in a post. Denison shared two photos showing firefighters on-board the train as passengers began to evacuate. He also shared when passengers gathered in a line to try and exit the train.
